Hurricane Wilma

Satellite Image of Wilma Hurricane Wilma tore up the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for over a week. Starting on Tuesday 18 October 2005, Wilma headed for the Yucatan peninsula and the storm battered Cancun and Cozumel for two days before heading back east. Tracking through the Gulf of Mexico, ocean effects from Wilma pounded Cuba. Wilma crossed the the Florida peninsula on Monday leaving a wake of destruction.

After a week, tens of thousands of tourists were still stranded in Mexico resort areas. Also slow to come out of Mexico, is reports of damage which are presumed catastrophic. Many media outlets report that the hospitality industries of Cancun and Cozumel have been literally blown away.

The 2005 season will be remembered with a record number of storms with record intensity.
