Hurricane Katrina

(Keywords: Storm, Damage - Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama)

Radar Image of Katrina The greatest, initial fear was that Katrina would hit New Orleans with the full force of a Category 5 Hurricane. But saying "it could have been worse" is little comfort to those who's lives have been affected by this devastation.

The western eye wall of Katrina passed east of New Orleans, tracking north to the Louisiana boarder. Eastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi , and South Alabama received the brunt of the storm.

For many, the situation got worse after the storm had passed. Those who survived high wind and storm surge, faced rising flood waters and the lack of basic necessities - drinking water, food, and shelter.
