Day Storm
"The Blizzard of '03"
The
worst winter storm in seven years shut down much of the eastern United States
on 17 February 2003. The blizzard conditions in the Northeast were
part of larger storm system that dumped snow from Missouri to New
Jersey, produced thunder and ice storms in the South and a tornado in northern
Florida. Disaster and emergency declarations were issued in Ohio,
Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

The western tip of Maryland was buried received 49 inches of snow in Garrett County. With this on top of existing snow cover, the windows of the state highway office in Keysers Ridge ( 39.70 N / 79.25 W ) were completely covered. Elsewhere, the Seven Springs Ski Resort ( 40.02 N / 79.3 W ) in western Pennsylvania had 40 inches of snow fall.
