travel. For many of us who remember tales of Daniel Ortega, the Sandinistas,
and Iran-contra, the thought of Nicaragua brings images of armed conflict.
But those days are gone and the people of Nicaragua welcome travelers.
The adventurous are rewarded by the splendor of volcanoes,
jungle villages, placid lakes, and pristine beaches, untouched islands,
like you'll find boating in Lago de Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central
America and home to rare freshwater sharks. Or perhaps you'll discover a
remote surf break on the southwestern Pacific coast.
Urban areas in Nicaragua are difficult to navigate because of the lack of
