The Timberline Trail
I must say that the folks that live in Portland have seemingly endless opportunites for outdoor play. Mount Hood, in particular, offers some of the most extreme hiking and climbing in the contential United States. I do not recomend it, but I have heard that you can circumnavigate Mount Hood in less than one day on the Timberline Trial. However, I do reocmend that you download this GPS Map if you even hazard to attempt a portion of the trail.
If you are going up for a day hike, I recomend the Tilly Jane Loop (Tracks 1, 12, & 13) from the Cloud Cap trailhead (Waypoint HOOD132). It is an easy 3 mile loop which takes you up and out above the timberline on Cooper Spur then back down to the recreation area. If you are in good shape, hike up Cooper Spur to the hut, near where the climbers tie off.

Before you venture up to the trailhead, you'll need to purchase a Northwest Forest Pass. The pass intitles you to park your vehicle at many improved trailheads, picnic areas, boat launches and interpretive sites on National Forests throughout Oregon and Washington.
