Kruger National Park
South Africa
Kruger National Park lies in the north east corner of South Africa and is a wilderness
paradise home to the Big 5: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. An amazing number and variety of flora and fauna can be found within 36 different landscapes that span the park's 250 miles extent. Download this GPS map to find the best places to observe wildlife.
There are many access points. In the south, use the entrance gates at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge (wpt.#KRU030). You will pass through parts of the Kruger with the most magnificent mountain and bushveld scenery, secretive riverine drives and see a massive variety of animals and exciting views. Along the way on this full day's drive, you'll be able to get out at special "hides" to get up close to animals and birds. When I did this drive in October 2006 I saw each of the Big 5 and in fact saw Leopards on 3 different occasions. Most of the journey will be on sand roads which are in excellent condition and easily driven by normal vehicles.
