Mount Kenya
Featuring:
Points of interest around the base and along trekking routes to Point Lenana.
Climbing
Mount Kenya is no picnic, but it is possible to reach the 16,354' peak of
Point Lenana without special mountaineering skills.
The three major routes for trekking up Mount Kenya are documented by various Internet sources, but specific geographic location information is sparse. Download this waypoint collection in one convenient GPs eXchange (.gpx) file. Each point of interest includes descriptive text in addition to the coordinates in latitude and longitude format. This is Class B data, suitable for trip planning purposes - not intended to be used in place of hiring a professional guide with local knowledge.
Adventure Travel Tip: The Naro Moru River Lodge owns all the mountain huts along the Naro Moru route, including the Meteorological Station and Mackinders Camp. You may opt to make arrangements with the Lodge if taking this route. Alternatively, the nearby youth hostel and campsite may be able to accommodate your visit to the Nanyuki base area.

Adventure in Reading
"Read 'No Picnic on Mt. Kenya' by Felice Benzzi. It's about Benuzzi and two other POWs who escaped from their prison at the base of Mount Kenya to climb the mountain olny to voluntarily return to their prison after their summit attempt. There were two POW camps. One of the camps was located 500 meters due east of the TroutTree Restaurant. Another, presumably his base camp, is located few miles to the north on the equator." - Elk
